What a bunch of whingers.
The pensions simplifiction plan is excellent. There is a lot of complaining by people who do not (want to?) understand.
Oh, and tax deductions were less in 1947? Anything to do with NHS starting in 1948?0 -

So how would the increases be paid for? The magic monetary tree of inflating away debt by printing more money has run out of ink.
Remember Brown cut the years to qualify for a full pension from 44 to 30 years. That with retrospect was a huge gaff.
Time that people accepted responsibity for themselves. To save for a reasonable pension requires saving. Perhaps a pension should receive a higher priority than a mobile phone.0 -

I too, born in 1955, got an estimate.
Because I was opted out, my pension is about £120 per week. Camerons letter says EVERYONE born after..... will get £148 per week.
How can I hold him to account over this I wonder?O would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us.

The history of NI contributions and pension benefits is one of increasing contributions and reducing benefits.
SERPS was introduced to provide a decent pension for those who didn't have a good employers scheme. The employee and the employer paid extra NI to fund SERPS. At that time the basic pension was linked to average earnings.
The link to earnings was dropped and SERPS benefits reduced over the years.
This new scheme charges everyone the high NI that was introduced specifically to fund SERPS to provide (in about 20 years for most) a basic pension that is lower than it would have been if the link to earnings had been maintained.0 -

I thought that as well, but he has just used deliberately (imo) deceptive language. What he actually means is that with indexation the flat rate will be at least £xxx but whether you get that depends on NI contributions.0 -
Well, this fired me into looking at some .gov info, which amongst other pages, led to:
You tried to access the address https://secure.thepensionservice.gov.uk/

Surely if you are in your early 30's you still have lots of options.
The answer to your question has to be, its your choice.0 -
The pensions system is undergoing massive reform over the next few years. In the link, the PM writes exclusively for MoneySavingExpert.com to explain the changes and why his Government is shaking things up....Read the full story:

Now all the Tory Team at MSE need do is have a space dedicated to other party political leaders. Albeit I doubt the Tory Team will consider turning a Money Saving Website into a political website......Even if they already have by introducing us to this clown!:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Hmm, I've now been able to access this using a different browser.
Heading in the direction of asking for a forecast online, I'm asked to sign up for a government gateway account.
Choose a password ...
It accepts any upper case letter, and any number, but for lower case letters it will only accept the letters a to o
I've never seen anything like this before.
Have I got another browser glitch, or some odd interaction with my Android tablet keyboard, or is this a true requirement?0
