Exactly why will there be a new pension deal for those of a certain age leaving older pensioners on a lower rate, seems odd and totally unfair.

The changes are for most individuals a cut to pensions, with most losing (those with good work history) and some winning (those who have little work history, the self-employed and those with lots of contracted-out service). Those close to retirement are protected as they get an underpin of what they would have under the old system.

Current pensioners receive whatever they accrued under the system in place when they built-up their pension. It would seem very unfair to now declare that the system has changed and the amount they receive will change.

I strongly suspect that those pensioners saying it is unfair that they are not treated under the new system want is a best of both worlds. If all existing pensioners were treated under the new systems lots of pensions in payment would be cut which would cause outrage. Is it fairness motivating the argument or a desire to get more than was contributed toward?
