Postage for a faulty item?

Hello everyone. Last year, for Xmas, my Father bought me a tablet. Unfortunately, last week the tablet failed and refused to turn on.

Today, I rang the company and they said that I should send it back to them and they'd investigate.

Do I have to pay for this? It seems a little unfair that I should pay what will be quite a lot of postage for them to investigate a fault with their item. But if that's what needs to be done, then so be it.

Also, how do I go about protecting myself? I assume I should send it recorded delivery, but someone said I should maybe take pictures beforehand just in case something happens?

Any advice would be wonderful. Thank you for reading.

  • What is a broken tablet worth? You will not be covered for much under recorded delivery. I might be better sending it through someone like parcel2go.

They have the right to investigate that it is faulty through no fault of your own, if they agree then they should refund the postage costs to you. It should be reasonable postage costs, although you should get it tracked, look for a courier service rather than the more expensive service the Royal mail offer.

Officially the buyer of the item is the father though...not the OP
