External hard drive

I have a external desktop hard drive which will not allow me access, saying it is corrupted. Had a few problems with it prior to this, is there any way of getting the info off? I had taken the precaution of getting another one and had been transferring stuff over over the last few months in anticipation of this, but I had to change laptop and saved some recent stuff which I now need access to if possible.

I did get a caddy for the laptop hard drive, not sure if there is something like this?

Thanks

when I try to access the external hard drive (seagate desktop) it states "the disk structure is corrupted and unreadable" I was moving stuff from this drive to another drive but had to get rid of my laptop, and copied stuff on to the above, it then stopped working.
  • Does it show the drive in My Computer? If you Right Click on it, Tools, Error Check it may show the errors or let you repair?

The other thing is have you tried it on another PC just in case?

This thread might help - http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/334380-disk-structure-corrupt-unreadable.html
  • Ok , what
states "the disk structure is corrupted and unreadable"
    and what
moving stuff from this drive to another drive but had to get rid of my laptop, and copied stuff on to the above, it then stopped working.
    has stopped working.
I am assuming that the seagate disk is not working and then I assume that your laptop has not stopped working, but the seagate has, but still cannot figure out what changing your laptop means, nor can I figure out

    and then
I did get a caddy for the laptop hard drive, not sure if there is something like this?
still doesn't help me or possibly anyone else, what you are trying to achieve

    It is a bit of waffle but I think the gist is;

She has a laptop and external HDD.
External HDD playing up so started moving stuff off it
Then had change laptop so copied stuff back on to HDD
Now wants to re access the HDD and move all stuff from it
HDD now reporting "corrupt" messages and laptop wont read it

Thanks for your help but where do you explain the other Hard Disk, and where does the caddy fit into it
I did get a caddy for the laptop hard drive, not sure if there is something like this?
    ???? Computer still says huh?

Above is the gist of it. Sometimes I don't get across what I am saying;). The caddy comes into it in that I got a caddy for the old laptop hard drive and was wondering if that would sort it or do I need a recovery programme

It sometimes shows and sometimes does not, the secuirty keeps wanting to scan and sometimes it looks like it got access and other times not. I did try on our desktop but get the same error message. I will look at that topic

As DebitCardMAyhem is trying to say (I think as I have also had a few beers:) ) is have you backed the stuff up to a different hard drive? if so all is good, if not then what are you trying to get from the broken one?I think he is also a bit confused (as am I) as you state you bought something and then asked if it exists!
