Cancelling Barclaycard

I tried to cancel my Barclaycard and was advised not to as this wouldn't help my credit rating.
Is this true? I've never used the card for years.
Apologies from a new user if this has been asked loads before.
Thanks,
Jon

Did Barclaycard say that? That really is a new one! If you have lots of credit cards already, closing unused ones can actually improve your rating as the amount of debt available to you decreases which makes you a better 'risk'.
Just call them back and say you want to cancel then shut them down when they try to make you stay.0 -
What kind of offers have people received when phoning Barclaycard to cancel?0
