Hi
Looking for some advice we are about to slate our roof with spanish slates now there is one called Barlosa and the other one is Cupa heavy 10 the I have managed to get the price from two different roofing suppliers and they are much the same now the decision is which one do I choose?? the Cupa feels slightly heavier if that makes any difference and the slate size is 16x10 can advice please.
thanks

The size weight of tile you could use would be determined by support below??? I wouldn’t guess the weight you need to know if the roof will take it then is personal choice if there fitted correctly both will work exactly the same way popularity is a consideration for the reason of will they be available in a few years time if you think not then buy spares ?0

18 years ago we had our then bungalow re-roofed.
It was slate.
We had it re-done in concrete pantiles
We got a discount as the builder said he could sell old english/welsh tiles at a profit
Tiles left Monday. Tuesday they were back.
Evidently they were Spanish, the trade don't like Spanish and class them as inferior, I'll clap that, but bottom line they were worthless..
Dig deeper before you decide.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

Most couldn’t tell the difference welsh has a slightly different hue colour but I’ve seen Spanish nearly identical they also export 75% of the world total use of slate there are plenty of other English slates out there Burlington blue-grey and green-coloured Westmorland slates from the Lake District, dark-grey Cornish Delabole slate, and Scottish Ballachulish and Easdale slates to name a few
If you want BS EN 123261. This standard tests slates for water absorption (low water absorption rate is linked to long life) frost- and fire-proof etc ensure products are tested to it which most would be ?0 -
Hello There
My name is Julian Gomez, I work in CUPA's Marketing division.
CUPA HEAVY Slates are 7.5mm thick, 50% thicker than standard 5mm natural slates sold in the UK.
CUPA 10 is one of our flagship natural slates, used for exaple in Tokyo's central station or La Almudena cathedral in Spain.
To be honest, most of CUPA 10 production is produced in small sizes and 3.5mm thickness for the french market, while CUPA 5, 98 and specially, CUPA 3, are sold in the UK in standard and HEAVY variants.
I would recommend you check out our CUPA HEAVY 3 slate before making a decision (just search for in on google)
I personally consider it to be the best thick slate in the world
Anyway, make sure you get a declaration of performance stating the origin and the kind of slate (always buy tectonic T1 slate!) before making your purchase.
If you need any further information, our office manager in the UK Adrian (abarreira.cupa@cupagroup.com) will be more than happy to help you out.
(Edit)
Forgot to mention that CUPA produces 1 in 3 natural slates sold around the world!0 -
