Changing to monthly bill and changing deals.
Hi,
Currently on "E.ON EnergyPlan with Prepayment" for both gas & electric. Not my choice, pre-payment meters were already there when I bought my place.
My question is, if I want to change to monthly, do I go about this with my current provider (is there small print to say I must stay with them for a year after they change), or are there deals where I can do both at once? How soon can I change tariffs once swapping, etc?

Presume that when you say paying "monthly", you mean having your Pre-payment meters removed and Credit meters installed.
Most suppliers will do this, but because they are giving you credit, they will run a Credit Check on you before doing so.
There are no tie-in clauses for a meter change, but there are for some tariffs so read the small print before you sign up0 -
Hi Mr_Moo
As dogshome says, provided you pass a credit check, we'll be happy to replace your existing prepayment meters with credit meters.
There's no charge for this but our engineer's availability is a bit limited at this time of year. Looking at between 3 to 4 weeks in certain areas at the moment.
Once changed, you can switch supplier whenever you like. There's no tie-ins or restrictions.
Unless you tell us differently, immediately after the exchange, we'll put you on our standard variable tariff. Although not necessarily the cheapest, there's no exit fee. Again, leaving you free to change supplier without penalty.
You can also move to another E.ON tariff whenever you wish. Just watch out for exit fees for changing supplier on a couple of these.
Prices on our standard variable tariff are about the same as you're paying now with prepayment meters. There is, though, the possibility of cheaper daily Standing Charges if you set up a Monthly Direct Debit.
Hope this helps Mr_Moo. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.

Thank you very much for the info Malc. One thing though, where you say:
"Prices on our standard variable tariff are about the same as you're paying now with prepayment meters. There is, though, the possibility of cheaper daily Standing Charges if you set up a Monthly Direct Debit."
Do you mean I'd get a similar rate for kWph, but without the standing charge (28p a day I believe)?0 -
Hi Mr_Moo
As Nada says, there'll still be a Daily Standing Charge for payment with a Monthly Direct Debit but it'll be lower than you're paying now.
For electric, it'll go down from 26.02p per day to 16.422p per day. For gas, from 31.50p per day to 21.903p per day. It works out at about £35 per year per fuel.
The rates per kWh are similar on both your current prepayment tariff and our standard charges for a credit meter.
Hope this is clearer Mr_Moo. Let me know if I can help further as happy to do so.
