I have, on more than one occasion, when buying private on eBay. The annoying thing is that they include shipping and insurance costs when calculating the amount.

You need to check specs carefully as I was looking at Acer ES1-512
Acer UK site version @£229 came with DVD player /writer whilst Acer US site with same model number @$249 (£160) did not have DVD reader/writer, Everything else appeared identical. Except PSU connection obviously.

You've been lucky, as have I.

They don't check every parcel, there are simply too many, but some are checked and will be charged the relevant duties and taxes.
