I don't think they do.thebritishbloke wrote: »Yup. I presume they look at HSBC internal data, but as I said all my accounts with HSBC have always been in good standing, so I'm really confused as to why they'd refuse me.
I opened a FD account(s) successfully after opening Nationwide, Halifax, M&S and Co-op one after the other.
Also, I was with HSBC for years, but at the beginning of this year I had a few cash flow problems, and due to mistakes on my part, I had 3 'bounced' direct debits.
HSBC closed the account.I Hate Jobsworths!!!0 -

HSBC closed the account.Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

First direct refused me about 4 years ago after telling me that my employer would not confirm if i worked there.WorkingGirl wrote: »LOL
That may be the excuse your friend offered you in order to save face, but do you really think any responsible employer will give out references (without authority from the employee) to anyone who happens to call up and ask?
They asked me to call them from work phone(HR phone number which they got from directory) i told them we have 1100+ staff working and i cant go in hr and use there phone to call them. Why can they not accept payslip? she said she cant and after few days received letter that we cant offer you account blah blah0 -
I was refused by FD a month or so ago, but have just been accepted for a HSBC Advance account.
Odd, but very similar accounts.0 -

Oops! I haven't looked at their premium accounts in a long time, I always remembered Premier as being the big-league account, and Advance being their paid account. They do have access to HSBC accounts but they will not access it unless they obtain authorisation from customer.
Long time ago when I applied for their credit card. I only had their 1st account which was only been opened for a month or two. So their lending department obtained auth from me so they can access my HSBC account. I agreed. The advisor could see all my HSBC accounts and transactions.0 -

To second this I had a nightmare a number of years ago with FD for a similar reason. They needed to call a publicly listed number for the company I was with and be transferred to me by name. Doesn't work so well in even a moderately secure environment. We got there in the end and the agent was very nice about it.0
