Problems with first direct

Despite being told they are open 24 hours, when I rang FD after I received my welcome letter tonight they said I would need to also speak to the switching team to confirm my switch date but they were not there after 9pm. I have already given them a date for the switch.

I also have problems getting the regular saver set up. I clicked on the account via my online banking which said I would be taken to a different screen - that screen told me to log on if I was a customer and from then on I just went round in circles. When I told the adviser of that he said that there must be a problem (I have tried for days to set it up) and he then said he could do it on line.

What I didn't realise is that once I set up the standing order for the regular saver it has to be for the same date each month and if I set it up today it would have to be today's date. So I said I would leave it until the morning to decide.

So, what is this amazing customer service that people and FD talk about...I am not impressed so far.

I guess it depends on the customer.

When you open a FD regular saver FD set up the standing order from your current account so you don't have to do it yourself. It can take a day or two to show up on screen.

That makes sense if I ask them to do it for me, but I was trying to set up the regular saver myself and the system sent me round in circles. Something is clearly wrong here with the online system.

I moderated it when I saw Nyman.

FD aren't amazing but they have a reputation for best of class. I've hardly ever had to deal with them but when I do they are great. If you've had the horrendous experience of their switching team not being available at 10pm perhaps you could try a bank with a customer service team in GMT+7.

I am sure I didn't imply it was a 'horrendous experience' and I am happy to call them back tomorrow. However the welcome letter said 'please give us a call, you can call any time day or night'.

All I can add now is thank goodness for Nyman.

You didn't call it a HE and if their letter said that then more fool them. At least we still have Nyman.

As far as i know you cannot set up a Regular Saver Account online.
You have to set it up on the phone.

    HTH

It can be set up online.
When logged into your account on a PC select "apply online" from the menu on the left then "regular saver".
Worked for me when I opened a new one on the 11th of this month.

Is the OP signing into internet banking using a security key or memorable data?

You need to sign in using a security code or you will be asked to enter one when requesting the application form.

I suspect the OP is not entering a valid Security code.
