Strange timewasters for cheap items on Gumtree

an odd one: my sister is selling a lot of her shoes on Gumtree. She has recently been contacted (through Gumtree) by several people, discussing prices (we are speaking a few pounds here), and asking if they could pick up the item at 9pm one evening. She gave her address, and haven't heard from them since.
That happened a few times, so we are a bit puzzled. We can't understand how this would be a scam (they have her address, what can they do with it?), a joke (no appointment made, so not really time wasting?)
Is there some odd code word for shoe fetichist???
Where is Hercule Poirot when you need it

I've found Gumtree recently full of time wasters
I was also trying to get rid of some low value items kids clothing and bits and bob's and found the some people would ask a question like do you accept paypal, I would reply yes and then no further response or where is it you live, I replied no response. Also even get as far as arrange a time to collect then not show up.
I decided in the end to give the stuff away in the freebie section and people still arranged a time to collect and didn't turn up.
In the end it all went to the charity shopFor thousands of people this Christmas, their must-have gift is far more vital than the latest gadget or toy – it’s blood. Please don’t let the festivities and cold weather prevent you from giving them the ultimate gift… give blood.0 -

Same thing happens to me - or they text me and say can I keep it till next Tuesday when hubby can collect it after work. I say yes, and then they don't turn up. Other times, I think people won't turn up because they live miles and miles away, and then they do!0
