Are Samsung Ecobubble wash machines worth the money?

New home and the mrs has her heart set on a Samsung Ecobubble washing machine that's about £450, which to me is a lot. My last washing m/c was an indesit and cost less than half that and lasted me 9 years+ (I left it in my flat when I sold it last week, its still going strong)
Whats with the extra cost for an Ecobubble? Are they worth the extra money?

They're meant to be more economical to run, they inject bubbles with the soap in rather than dumping it in. I have one, I got my heart set on it too (I was rather attracted to the pretty lights and sounds I admit lol) I'm not much help as it's my first washing machine and weve only been in a month! But compared to my mums fagor machine it's quieter, it doesn't scream when I put my fluffy jackets in which the fagor couldn't even cope with just the jacket in and died on spinning multiple times. The drum is huuge to me I find getting a load ready for the old machine and needing to find more stuff to make it worth while. It spins well too, a lot of stuff feels practically dry when I get it out after.
Also it sings when it has finished which makes me laugh each time (you can turn this off)0 -
We have a samsung ecobubble had it for 5 months paid about £370 with a free Samsung 5 yr warranty not a curr.. 5 yr warranty witch would have taken the price up to almost £500
No difference using it than any other machine we've had before. We've had hotpoint indesit and hoover previously
Cheaper to use ? Can't tell if it is , too complicated working out how much electric / water etc. the old or new uses ,the pretty music it plays when the wash / spin etc.is finished is getting to be a pain in the neck !
Ours is 7kg size , plenty big enough as they say
But what I will say is for whatever washing machine you have , use half the powder you normally use and if you use fabric softener no matter what brand , water it down 50 /50
Why ? because .... it lasts longer and does the same job as using it straight from the bottle , the machine doesn't get full of cr.. behind the drum
Ever dismantled a 5 yr old washing machine ?
Not a pretty site inside , caked on fabric softener !!
Have a read here , it's an Australian site but worth a read anyway

I'm sure i read in my machine instructions you can turn the song off, might be worth a look if its getting annoying!0 -
We have an ecobubble machine, which we bought fairly recently. We bought one as our last rented flat had one and we liked it - it was much quieter than our old Bosch, it seemed to leave the clothes smelling 'fresher' and I really liked the 1400 spin. I'm not sure if they're any better than any other machine in that price range, but we're happy it.
Oh, we like the tune too - it's a version of 'The Trout' by Schubert0 -
I'm thinking of buying one of these but have been a little bit put off by reviews which said that 1) it doesn't dissolve washing powder well because of the "bubble" system ( I suppose using less is the answer?)
and 2) for the same reason you have to put detergent in the drawer, not the drum (although this was the only way to do it when there was only powder available)
Has anyone had problems with this?0 -
I've got an Eco Bubble one.
One of the first things I did was turn the stupid tunes off!
It is a physically large machine, which sits proud of the front of my units, but it does take a big load.
I've no idea whether it's more efficient or economical than any other one, apart from its energy ratings seemed good at the time of purchase.0 -
the cost per cycle is displayed in the info of washing machines, so easy enough to compare.
As for the bubble rubbish, soap dissolves in water, the drum spins= clean clothes, balls filled with washing powder you put in the drum (gets to the heart of the wash, remember that one!), tablets (no control on amount used,so costs more)and now bubbles! are just intended to make you spend more money.
The main points you need to look out for are, water usage (if on a water meter)
Power usage, most are less than 1unit, (so it would take a long time to make a saving on a £450, if it's electric usage is only a matter of 0.2 units different)
Spin, the drier the clothes come out, the cheaper to dry (if using a drier)
I have just bought a Candy washer for £199, 1600 spin, 44% water remaining in clothes after spin, 40 lites of water usage, and 1 unit of electric a cycle.0
