Claim advice

I had a call from Eldon Insurance this morning advising that someone was making a claim.
Basically, about 7 weeks ago I reversed in to the side of someones car in Sainsburys car park. It was a very light tap and did not hit him hard it all. We both inspected the area hit and there was no visible damage or scratches/dents. He agreed to this.
He took a photo of my numberplate and my mob number, although I forgot to take a picture of the area I hit and did not take his contact number. We did not exchange Insurance details.
I asked Eldon Insurance what the damage is that he is claiming for and they don't know and awaiting paperwork (seems weird). They confirmed he only contacted them this morning (7 weeks after the incident). Just about to set up a new insurance policy on a car I've put a deposit down on and apparently I lose my 2 years no claims even if he is unsuccessful in his claim and the insurance company pay him nothing. Surely if I had to enter say 0 years no claims I could claim back the difference if his claim is unsuccessful? Seems dodgy. Any advise would be great.

After your admission of guilt ie above. he will have no problem winning.
You also should be informing your present insurance company of the incident and the claim against you.
Otherwise you will be in trouble with them.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • You only lose your NCD if they actually get paid out anything. Your NCD will initially be reduced whilst the claim is open but if nothing comes of it then it is reinstated.

There is a whole host of possibilities about what is going on, it could be hes just done what hes supposed to an informed his insurers about the incident but that has triggered automatic letters/ referrals etc. Unfortunately its a bit of a waiting game
