Also is there a credit check? cause last time i tried to do a Halifax switch failed.
Thanks

Be surprised if there wasn't a credit check, especially as if doing via phone they verify your identity electronically, this would mean checking electoral register and your credit file for proof of identity.
If you've a poor credit doesn't mean they'd decline you, just may not be able to offer you an overdraft facility at the present time.0 -
Clydesdale certainly credit-checked me when I applied by phone this afternoon. Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

This would mean an ID check, not a credit check.
They still require your permission to conduct such checks, the account that is being applied for is a current account which is an account that can have a credit facility. Quit being so pedantic, only trying to help the person who has posted.0 -

It is important to understand the difference between an ID check and a credit check, and it is good that grumbler picked it up. Too many credit checks in a short space of time will work against you if you want further credit, whilst ID checks don't matter at all.
For current account applications, a credit check needs to be carried out in 99.99% of all cases. If you don't agree, your application gets abandonned. ID will be checked in 100% of cases, either against the bank's own records or against external data. A fraud check will also be carried out, using the National Hunter DB.0 -
I've opened about 12 new current accounts since February. Haven't been declined for any of them (yet) but that's a lot of credit searches sitting on my record for the next year or two. I just look at all the extra interest coming in and think... meh
