EDF large bill

Hey there,

I have received a whooping £2225 energy bill from EDF....

I have checked with my account with them. I know I have paid all my bills on time. There's no way the bill is correct - it is not even the end of the year, and they are claiming this bill is correct!

I compared it to last years' final bill; it is ridiculous it is not right - I suspect there is a fault with the meter or something!!?

I have sent them a photo of the meter – and still they disagree.

I’m in the process of disputing the bill – but the problem is actually speaking to someone in the call-centre. I can’t seem to speak to a human / or someone with English as a first language and I've tried email support but its a joke, scripted one-liners replies - no help.

- Has anyone else had an issue like this with them? And manage to get resolved? I really want to sort it out but its almost impossible to speak to someone with a brain.

Thanks.

Bill

How do you know the bill is not correct? How do you know it is not a correct catch-up bill covering eighteen months or two years?

If you do think it is not a catch-up and the meter is faulty you can ask them to check the meter. This will cost £65 to £85 but will be waived if the meter turns out to be faulty.

Check the usage for a week or two now that heating is back on (if it is). Does your actual use now trigger previous winter's bill being a low estimate or trigger doubts about the meter's reliability?

It is no good just saying the bill is incorrect. Do the meter reads agree, do the payments you have made add up, have previous bills been based on estimated or actual readings ?
  • I'd like to think I possess a brain, although admittedly English isn't my first language.....

The first thing is to establish if you've used the energy or not. Just comparing with last year's bill doesn't cut it - have up to date meter reads been used for the latest bill?

9 times out of 10 in this scenario consumption has been underestimated for some time, and then a meter reader has been round and then arrives the large bill.

If you can rule this out then you should start investigating imperial/metric meter mix ups/leaks/faulty meters, but I'd eliminate the obvious first.
  • I know the bill is incorrect, because I have paid all other bills on time and in full. A meter reader came in and took a reading, I’ve doing the readings and sending EDF the results.

I am 100% sure the bill is wrong/ incorrect it can't be that high for this quarter, there is either a fault or admin error...

I received a letter EDF yesterday - explaining my annual usage for this year / compared too last year - which again, is no where as high or as expensive as say I owe for this quarter. And this is from EDF!

Bluebirdman - I'm sure do, and thanks for your advice - if you worked for EDF. I'd be happy to deal with you.

We need actual meter readings, not rhetoric.

What does your meter read right now?
What were the meter reads used on the invoice?

If you answer the question, people can help you. If you dodge the question, you're pretty much on your own.
