I don't have an attitude at all. I paid for the house with my money. I don't want to end up with nothing that's all. I'm not trying to cheat anyone. I just need to know the facts as any intelligent human being would in my circumstances.

Any intelligent human being in your circumstances would seek professional legal advice and pay for it rather than rely on the opinions of a lot of complete strangers on an Internet forum

    The solicitors might though.

Getting married doesn't cost much but divorcing costs a lot.

    Would a prenup work?

I always thought the assets acquired during the marriage would be split 50/50 but anything you started with you could keep. Maybe I'm wrong.

Perfectly rational but not in this country, marriage here is more a matter of property than body & soul!

    Gloomendoom is right:
It depends on how long you are married but, no, you can't guarantee that you will keep what you had before you got married.

In the OP's case though, if the marriage failed after 12 months, it would be classed as a short marriage and a court would probably want to see both parties back in the situation they were in before the marriage.

If the OP doesn't buy off his ex wife then they could sell the property at a later date without taking into account the current wife.
