Made a claim through an agent but nothing received

Hi, I have a friend who has advised me that back in 2007, she tried to reclaim charges back from her bank (Barclays) but they only offered a very small amount in comparison to what she was really entitled to (she had already requested copies of her bank statements and highlighted all the charges that she should have received back which came up to a total of £2,600), however, she did not feel confident to continue the claim directly with the bank and used a third party agent (she has the details/name if needed) to make the claim on her behalf, however, she had to leave the UK at the time but kept in contact the agent to try to find out if any money was refunded but they said that the claim was not successful! After reading the different articles here, we have grown a bit suspicious on wether they might have made a claim and not passed on the refund to her as she was away for a couple of years from the UK.
The question is, how can we check wether a claim has been made and the status of it? AND if that may prevent her for attending to reclaim now? We do understand that it will only be for the past 6 years now.
Many thanks in advance for you attention.

You could ask Barclays?
The banks won the bank charges court case, any claim now would need to be based on existing hardship. Does your "friend" still bank with Barclays?0 -
You are trying to find out if a seven-year-old complaint about bank charges was definitely unsuccessful?
I think even the "agent" won't have kept details, though you could send them a SAR letter just to be sure (cost =£10). I doubt Barclays will have kept details of the complaint either, but you could send them a SAR too if you want to be sure.
I'm not sure why you think it possible that the "agent" might have been successful, but withheld the money? That would have been outright theft, surely? Banks normally pay any refund direct to the complainant anyhow. The "agent" would have billed for services separately.
As for complaining about these historical bank charges now, only those who are in current financial "hardship" are refunded any bank charges and typically only recent ones are considered.0
