- I hope not, but anything is possible, you want a brand new car for your partners work needs, its nothing whatsoever to do with your mobility needs
- like the blue badge parking arrangement you wanted so your husband would have an exclusive parking place when he arrived home from work
- but anything is possible, ask Motability if your husband going to work is a 'routine activity'
The car must be used by, or for the benefit of, the disabled person. This does not mean that the disabled person needs to be in the car for every journey. In practice, this means that other named drivers in the same household can use the car for shopping, visiting family and other routine activities, so long as the disabled customer will benefit.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. Thank you i will benefit with the a new car we cannot afford to have 2 vehicles0 -
If his self employed then no as you can not have business insurance on a motability vehicle.0

Business use cover
Travel to and from your normal workplace is included in your insurance cover. If you need to use the car for business purposes, other than the journey to your usual workplace, you can arrange business use cover for most occupations. Business use cover will not begin until you receive a new, current Certificate of Motor Insurance showing this cover.
Whether him using it for work is 'for the benefit of the disabled person' is I think a grey area.0 -
It's not a grey area we were told its perfectly acceptable as earning money is beneficial for disabled person. in my agreement it says you cant use as a taxi or delivery vehicle so presumed you couldn't use it for business use.0

I doubt very much you could get away with your partner using it for his business, that's not driving to and from work for your benefit really , why not take the money from your mobility component and put it towards a new car every month , that would be a personal vehicle and you could do what you like with it then, there are no rules stating you have to buy a vehicle though the motability scheme with the money, tbh it's not a good deal when you consider you pay thousands out to a car dealer to "use" a new car and have nothing to show for it all at the end, if you can stump up the money buy your own and keep the payments0

- how will you benefit ?, the vehicle by your own admission will be unavailable for the use of the disabled person
- exactly my point, a vehicle for his work precisely denies the disabled an opportunity for mobility needs usewe cannot afford to have 2 vehicles
