Removal of incorrect defaults.

Hi just wondering how long it would take for a bailiff company to remove a default from a credit file?

They have confirmed in writing via a letter last week that the debt is not that of the person and will remove it from their file.

Thanks

    Hi bcm3

It really is down to the individual creditor concerned as to how promptly they rectify things. It can sometimes take as much as a month for updates to a credit report to take effect - I would push the creditor for a specific deadline. If there are delays, that letter you refer to could be used to prompt the credit reference agencies themselves into acting to put matters right.

Just for the record, I assume that we are actually talking about a debt collection agency that has bought a debt? As a bailiff firm would have nothing to do with the updating of a person's credit file.

Hi Dennis, thanks for the reply. Yes sorry it's Capquest who has agreed to remove it.

Basically my Father in law applied for a mortgage with my partner and they were declined. They thought it was odd as the FIL never uses any credit etc so they checked his file and could see a defaults going back to 2011 from Capquest.

After some research found it was a debt his other son with the same name had taken out with the FIL d.o.b but at his sons address. So he called Capquest and confirmed details etc sent proof of who he was and that he has never lived at his sons address etc and they wrote back to him to confirm this was not his debt and it would be removed.

    Hi Bcm3,

If the amendment has not yet appearing on your credit report, contact the company that supplied the report, with a copy of the confirmation from Capquest, and they will be able to chase Capquest on your behalf.
If it is your Experian report the information is appearing on contact us and we will be able to raise the query for you.
    Regards

    Thanks Neil, will do :)
  • I recently applied for a mortgage no reason to think anything would be wrong my application was denied on the grounds of fraud at a linked address I have since discovered that Call credit provided this information. When I checked my credit file I noticed a default that's not mine, not my name but same surname and my DOB and lots of linked address I have never heard of All this happened in June and still today I am waiting for a conclusion nationwide the bank responsible for putting the incorrect information on are just sorry for any inconvenience caused wow that's an understatement The incorrect information is still on my file up until recently I have had phone calls from credit agencies even a text to my mobile addressed to the person on my credit file where did they get my number from. If you find a default on your credit report treat it as serious and keep complaining until someone listens the credit report agencies won't take it off until it is proved it shouldn't be there Good luck
