Smeg Dishwasher smell 6 months old!

Hi folks
Looking for a little advice on what to do with my faulty dishwasher.
Bought online from Currys in April. A couple of months ago it started to give out a strong metal/burning smell at the end of the cycle.
Contacted Currys and technician cam out. He said he didn't have time to wait through a cycle to smell the problem but had a look and would replace a few parts. He said if that didn't work Smeg would probably replace it.
A few weeks later he did this but straight away it didnt solve the problem. Contacted Currys and they said technician had to come back again to smell it when it was on.
He did this a few weeks ago. He came in said he could smell it, opened the top and said it could be the insulation heating up (i wasn't convinced as is didn't smell the same inside when he opened it) and said he would right a report.
I received a surprising letter from smeg on Friday saying the report from the technician says the appliance is working to specification!
So, what do i do now?
Surely there is a problem with it so smell like it does, i'm worried it isnt safe but worried about getting a stone wall if i contact currys again because of this letter.
Please help
Thanks
Si

Is there a build up of limescale on the element? That happens quite regularily on mine as we are in a very hard water area and you get a distinct burning smell from it heating up on the element, usually a cycle with a heavy dose of citric acid clears most of it and if it gets too bad i resort to changing the element0

I have no idea if has limescale on the element - i would expect the engineer to address that surely when he came out?
I am in a normal hard water area but have never had this before, plus the machine is 6 months old with not heavy use. If it was that it is surely unfit for purpose anyway
Thanks for the thought tho.

Is it over 6 months old? If it is, then it's up to you to prove that the fault is inherent.
The usual way to do this is with an independent engineers report, so someone who is not affiliated with Smeg or Curry's, and get them to write a report to say that the fault is inherent.
Then you can go back to Curry's and request a repair/replacement/refund on the fault found by the independent engineer.0 -
Is it just me and my juvenile sense of humour that smiled at the thread title having Smell and Smeg in the same sentence?0

Hi SuperHan
Its 7 months old now but have been back and forwards with currys/smeg since September0 -
Giving off a smell doesnt have to mean there is a fault. Does it clean dishes?0

Can you see the element? On mine its in the bottom of the dishwasher and it looks like a bent metal bar just above the base of the machine (actually inside where you put the dishes), If it has a white build up on it then that is limescale.
If it is a build up of limescale then its not technically a fault as it will happen to any machine that uses water, that is what those annoying calgon adverts are refering too when they say washing macghines live longer if you use their product but exactly the same result can be had using bog standard citric acid for a fraction of the price0 -

Took me back to a "smeeeeeg heeeaaad" episode of red dwarf! You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
