Raspberry Pi - Anyone Here Got One?

I've just ordered myself a Raspberry Pi B+ model and was wondering if anyone on here had one as well.

My friend uses it as a media center on the TV for Youtube and iPlayer mainly. He uses XBMC & Showbox on it,.

I was wondering what other people were using them for as i heard emulators can run on it as well.

I use mine as a media server but there are hundreds of projects that you can use them for.

Perhaps try asking in a Raspberry Pi forum?

I'd only posted in here as any techie advice is usually much more Layman's terms (suits me better) and saves having to sign up to another forum.

I know they make good media devices but was wondering what other practical uses they have for the average person with limited IT knowledge.

    Hi

Well to explain the original idea...

Low cost for kids/students, so that if they BORK it a replacement is cheaply available. You use existing kit where you have it. eg keyboard, TV, mouse etc.

It is designed as a teaching/thinking aid.

If you have time, try... http://www.themagpi.com/ and read the back issues.

Also consider... http://raspberryoffice.com/index.html for document production.

The best place is the raspberry pi forum area.

I have just bought a B+ last week

There are lots of builds and tutorials for XBMC and MAME emulators

Showbox, as I understand it, allows you to access illigally uploaded TV shows and movies, so I could not comment on that. On a previous xbmc build i had, you could indeed get links to things like youtube, iplayer TED talks and a lot more

Other things it can easily be used for
Your own personal "dropbox" kind of service - lets you store and access all your files from anywhere
Web server - build and run your own website
and 1,000,001 other things. A great deal of these, like the media server, have been done, tried and tested by really knowlegable people and they kindly share their work with us lesser mortals on how to

Have a google around you will easily find things
There are 10 kinds of people that understand binary
    Those that do
    Those that dont
