Hi
I have finally cancelled my sky tv contract and have now signed up for an EE phone and broadband contract.
The sky box is now pretty useless to me, I was just wondering if there was anything i could use in place of it using the same dish and cabling?
Such as a Youview box? Would it work?
Or is there anything else? Ideally to record and catch up tv.

Have a look at Freesat0

Just to be sure, you know that you can leave the existing Sky box in place to watch all the free-to-air channels ("Freesat from Sky")?
But no recording / catching-up available.
I hear that Humax Freesat boxes are pretty good.0 -
Ive still got the sky box in place but appears to get less channels than freeview!
Will look into a freesat box! Thank you.0 -

It gets a different channel line up.
A freesat box will still give you a different channel line up from that on freeview

e.g. no Dave on Freesat0 -
I don't think you'll get any more channels on Freesat than you are currently getting through your Sky box in "Freesat-from-Sky" mode.
Someone will be along to correct me if I'm wrong. Both are slightly different to what you get on Freeview.
Here's a list of what you can currently get on your Sky box:
http://www.sky.com/shop/freesat/home/what-can-i-watch/
In fact according to Wikipedia there are a handful of channels you can currently get on Freesat-From-Sky which you won't get through Freesat:

I suggest you add the ones you're interested in to your 'Favourites' on your Sky box so can avoid having to scroll through the full list when looking through the guide.
A Freesat box will get you the catch-up & recording stuff, so if that's what you're really after then it's the way to go.0 -
Cancelled Sky a few months ago and use Humax Freesat box with EE phone and Broadband.
I also got NOW TV entertainment box at £7 per month for all my Sky Living, Sky 1, Sky Atlantic, etc... to keep me sane.
Best thing I have done this year.0
