Car Keys

I recently purchased an eight year old Renault Megane and the previous owner only had one remote central locking key for it. I went to my local Renault dealer in Ipswich to buy a second key and was quoted a total of £134.97 This is for the Head (£67.37), Blade (£15.00) and Coding (32.50) all plus VAT. I thought this was extortionate, so does anyone know where I can obtain one at a better price?

Yes stealers always charges you alot for very little work. Best bet is to look at your local directory or yellow pages for car security. Ring around those places to get quotes, often they are cheaper than the stealer charge.

I have tried car security firms but they only seem to do after market add on's, not original equipment. It looks like I shall jusy have to pay £134.97 for a new key and remote control thingy.

have you tried ebay, you may be able to get a key etc. from there and then just need the cutting, also have a read of the car manual as that may contain the details of how you can program and 'connect' a new remote to the car. Ford were trying to charge me £40 or so to do it on a Focus when the instructions were in the manual, all you needed was at least two other keys that would fit in the ignition and were coded already to your car, i.e. the remote you already have and i assume you also have a non-remote key aswell
