should i now cancel all the credit cards i have paid off...?

I took out a few credit cards when i needed some cash but i have now managed to pay them nearly all off - just one oustanding at the moment. i was initially on a 0% interest credit card but they nearly all ran out. i had to pay a bit of interest on a few before i could pay off. at the moment i am in the position to be able to pay the last one off. I think I read a little while back that it was better to cancel cards if you want to take out another interest free card later on (you never know may need one as in case of any emergency later on). is this definitely the case? thanks in advance.
