My Grandma sounds just like yours! I usually go with photos in a nice frame.
However I made my Grandma a Teatowel & dishcloth bouquet for her recent birthday, she thought it was brilliant. (I'm trying to locate a photo that i didnt then put business advertising on)

Wow, I could have written this about my Grandma, although throw partially blind and a bad chest so no books, DVDs, flowers and smellies into the equation as well.

Usually she likes a new pair of slippers as shuffling around wears them out pretty quick, but other than that I'm stumped every Christmas and Birthday.

Maybe not what you're thinking but if she's stuck at home what about something she can enjoy there such as a nice bird table so she can sit and watch the wildlife - a friend did that for her mum when she was in a nursing home and she loved it.
  • waterford crystal vase and bunch of flowers, a poinsettia plant, a new xmas decoration eg fresh wreath for the front door, a dvd of a carol concert/ andre rieu which you could stay and watch with her and a xmas cake to serve with a pot of tea, a luxury food hamper, new slippers, bottle of perfume, expensive bath products eg penhaligan, jo malone, molton brown, a vintage china trio for her cup of tea from antique shop, embroidered footstool, a slanket or handmade throw/ blanket .... Do you know anyone who could make a personalised blanket maybe her favourite colours or her name, a rose bush or plant for her garden , an indoorcactus, a reading lamp, a magnifying glass hands free from a sewing shop, a new xmas oilcloth tablecloth wipe clean, xmas teatowels or oven gloves, xmas embroidered cushion for her couch, a large print book to read or puzzle magazines, a teatray with folding legs, a microwaveable hot water bottle, just have a look around her house see what looks like it needs replacing or take note of things close to where she sits as those will be her essential items if she is fairly immobile take your clues from these items, it could be as simple as.glasses cases, magazines or tea trolley.
  • Slightly different idea but two more.... Write out 78 reasons why you think she is awesome in a letter, who doesnt love a little flattery or buy a giant xmas card and ask 78 people to sign it, put inside a flattering picture of her when younger and get 78 random people to leave a nice comment ( at church for example) its not as hard as you would think.

That's a fab idea! thank you so much, didn't think of anything like that, she'd love reading it.

Her sight is about the only thing still working! She does go through slippers and house shoes (as she calls them, they're like toms but fluffy on the inside) so quickly too :)
  • Cashmere? Kid leather gloves in a jewel colour? Good luck!!!
