Mobiles sending text to BT home line

I'm really annoyed. >:(

This week I inadvertantly sent a text message to a friends home number instead of her mobile, I thought nothing of it as I thought it would be rejected.

I've now found out that it is possible to send a text message to a home phone and it is either converted to a text message which shows on caller display or a voice message which is left by an automated female voice.

I've caused my friend no end of hassle. They couldn't understand what was happening, as it showed their own number as being the caller. They imagined that their line had been bugged, tapped into - who knows what!

They spoke to BT several times and contemplated ringing the police before someone said, Oh yes that's a new service that is out that not may people know about.

I'm really annoyed that I could do this from my phone without even knowing about it!!! I could have sent a very personal message which I didn't want anyone to hear and caused all sorts of trouble.
