I have a few email accounts, some web-mail ones (Google and Yahoo) but my main 'home' mail is with Virgin media, ending in blueyonder.co.uk.

This I view at home with Microsoft Outlook and have done since I joined 'Telewest' many years ago.

I am about the leave Virgin now and join Sky, so that email will obviously be lost.

I'll just have to work through everything and try and change my email details etc before I actually lose the account.

My question however is .. can I access web based emails at hoe using Outlook ?

OK I can use the normal browser, but I like the way Outlook works. I can add reminders etv too.

thank you

For googlemail I'd recommend using the browser version.

It has reminders and a task list as well as being automatically linked to Google Keep (for notes), Calendar and other Google apps which are really handy.

The beauty is that by using the native calendars it is very easy to auto sync all of your mail/notes/calendars etc to any tablets/phones (and when you delete an email from your phone, it is deleted everywhere) and everything is accessible from any device/computer.

I'd definitely recommend giving it another chance before deciding for sure to stick with the Outlook setup.

That makes it sound like an irreversible decision, but using Outlook doesn't stop any of the web stuff from working (as long as you make sure Outlook leaves messages behind on the server when you set up the link).

I have Outlook so I can see messages locally but still use the web-based email/calendar etc. too.

Are you sure you'll lose the blueyonder email address?

My Virgin email account works even though I don't buy any services from them.

It's still a wise decision to move away from that email server, you never know when they will stop this service for non-customers...
  • For Google Mail I know it is a pain in the backside but it is worth sticking with it over Outlook as you will get more benefit from using it in the browser like Hangouts and things like that.

There is a link when you enable IMAP in your account that give you the settings and it should hopefully tell you how to setup the emails using IMAP.

With Google you can add tasks in the web interface that work quite well, and also things like Google Keep where you can add little notes / reminders. Once you get your head around the web version it is a lot better!

Trust me Hangouts is one reason to avoid the web interface, Keep words quite well without gMail.
