premier parking solutions - pcn

Hi all,
I am looking for a bit of advice. Last night I was unable to park outside my house (which is not permit parking) because there were no spaces, so I parked just around the corner, about 50m away from where I normally park, which is evidently permit parking as I returned to my car this morning to find a parking charge notice for £100, £60 if paid within 14 days. Until seeing this pcn I was unaware it was permit parking. The sign stating that it was permit parking was not clearly visible due to a car parked in front of the stand alone sign. I parked there from approx 9pm Saturday night until 9am Sunday morning (ticket was put on car at 7am on Sunday morning). The company that issued the pcn is called Premier Parking Solutions (PPS), who are a member of the British parking association, and is an IAS company (not entirely sure what that means - I think it is something to do with appeals but not sure).
I have heard and read on these forums a lot of people saying to ignore the pcn and not to pay it and that nothing will happen. My question is should I pay it? Or ignore it? Or take some kind of other action?
Any advice/information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Do come back at POPLA stage though before submitting that appeal. Sue Blacksmith of PPS must be very proud of the 'work' she does in ripping people off left right and centre, pretending they can issue fake fines and kidding that they 'thought they had suffered a loss' every time one of their flimsy tickets flips over. PPS do try hard to beat people at POPLA and on occasion have confused a POPLA Assessor into rejecting an appeal. So we want to help you beat them.PRIVATE 'PCN'?
