RBS payments by text

Hello All, I'm hoping someone may be able to help or advise with a problem my daughter has with RBS.
To but a long story short Daughter A asked Daughter B to lend her £25. B sent the money via a mobile option (I have to confess that I have no idea how this works) A got a txt saying she had been sent funds but no option to accept. The funds obviously didn't go to her bank so B thinking it hadn't worked did it again (duh) with the same result. So now £50 has gone out of B's account but apparently into thin air! The mobile she sent it to is actually in my name and I pay for it but nothing came into my account and I checked with the phone provider that nothing had hit my account too. RBS have said there is nothing they can do about it, surely this can't be right? Obviously the bank of Mum and Dad are now £75 down having to lend the original 25 and now the 50 needed to get through the month!!
Any ideas would be much appreciated
Thank you

    I don't know the RBS system but . . .

Does A still have the original (2) texts?

If she does, cannot she follow the instructions therein?

If she doesn't and the funds weren't accepted, surely the funds would have been returned to B's account. (When I've inadvertently made payments to one of my closed account still on my payee list, the funds have been returned to the originating account within a few working days having been rejected by the receiving organisation.)

Have you seen B's online statement, say 2 or 3 working days after the original payment was made?
  • Hello thanks for your reply. Yes she has the texts but there were no instructions, I'm thinking there must have been a glitch somewhere. This was two weeks ago and nothing has bounced back yet it's really weird! I'm sure the funds are floating around in cyber space somewhere !
  • If the person you’re paying is an RBS Mobile app user, they’ll receive a text and the money will be in their account instantly.
It doesn’t matter if the person you’re paying doesn’t have the RBS Mobile app. They just need to have a valid UK Visa debit, credit or prepaid card and a UK mobile. We’ll send them a text message to let them know the money is waiting, and a link to click. Separately, you will have to let them know how much you've sent them. When they follow the link in the message, enter their Visa card number and the amount they’re expecting from you, we’ll deposit the money in their account within 48 hours.
Once we’ve notified your contact, they have seven days to collect a payment. And we’ll send you a text message when they’ve collected the payment and your balance has been debited.
  • Thank you , I will get them to check it all again but A didn't receive any link to accept. Is there any recourse for this problem , the funds haven't bounced back as yet?

First thing to do is figure out which service was used to send the money with.

    Was is PAYM? http://www.paym.co.uk/how-does-it-work

Was it a Faster Payment made from a mobile app?

    Was it something else?

Has the sender verified that they used the correct information for the recipient?

Thanks, I'm not sure ATM. She'll be round later so I'll go through it with her! I'll be glad to get it sorted believe me!

Getting the proper information will help us to have a better idea what might have happened, but really the only way to resolve this is for daughter B to be much more insistent with RBS. If necessary, formal complaint and FOS.

Paym was only introduced today for RBS Group customers.

So we can safely say it wasn't PAYM that the daughter used. I wonder whether we'll get an update from the OP?
