If you're really are only going to use it for browsing then just get whichever suits your price range as even the old ipad1 is alright for browsing... If however you think know you may take to an ipad and maybe use it for something more taxing then get at least an ipad 4 with Retina display for a bit of longevity.

Longevity hah, ipad1 came out in 2010 ios6 came out in 2012 it does not work natively on ipad1 (yes you can jailbreak it and use bits of it) I have a 2004 pc which still runs fine under Linux for browsing, office apps. Buy a cheaper Android tablet for browsing , in fact update it in a years time by buying a new one, and again in two years time you will still save money.

We have an ipad2 which (i at least think was fair value for what the OH wanted, and the build quality is excellent) but if you primarily just want browsing my anwer is above.

Does it have to be an ipad? I have a great tablet which I imagine was way cheaper than an Apple product. it was a gift so don't know how much it was.

I have the ipad 3 retina display wifi, does everything I need and has the latest update. Never use either of my laptops as so much easier using iPad.

I 'sold' my 31/2 year old IPad to Game. To my surprise, they paid me £140. New IPad Air 2 in hand. The difference in performance and battery life is phenomenal.

I recently got given an ipad Air cell by my employer. So far I'm underwhelmed. There is so much it can't do that I don't see my laptop being retired any time soon and I've just ordered a load of bits to upgrade may desktop.

That's not to say the ipad hasn't got it's uses, it's certainly more portable, but I'm glad I didn't pay for it myself. Maybe when I've had it a bit longer I'll think differently.

Genuine question. What can an ipad do that is more taxing than browsing?
