just got my paperwork at last and the standing charge is 31.5p a day!!! lol! over 2 quid a week! 2 pounds 20p actually!! if this is the standard charge for eon gas meters I'm changing suppliers asap!
BG is 26p a day but it all depends on the tariff rates as well. Do a comp site review and check against the competition, Eon may still come out tops. The credit meter customers will also pay the same 31 p a day standing charge. Just get the credit meters in as fast as possible then hit the comp sites avoiding First Utility and Npower and switch thro Moneysavingexperts Cheap Energy Club for cashback.
Personally I ve just switched to Eons V10 one year fix which came out tops for me, their V12 is also cheap. I think their daily standing charge for me, on gas, was 18p a day

As sacsquacco has stated, the best thing to do is a comparative quote, based on your use in the property. Generally, a supplier with a higher standing charge will offer a lower unit price.

Just an FYI, the standing charge you are paying, 30p per day (31.5p after VAT) is reduced to 20.86p (21.903p after VAT) when you pay by Fixed Monthly Direct Debit with E.ON. Just might want to keep that in mind when you get the new meters in.

Hope this helps, and good luck in the new property. :)

Of course not I had no idea what was going on it was pitch dark and I couldn't work out what to do - I had no idea; as the previous owner asked for the meter to be removed that arrears were building up! I only noticed the prepayment metere by chance when the door flew open as it has been broken. I was horrified! I have always been all electric before as in the country and never had gas or a prepayment meter!! what the hell is screen 27 or 24???

    Hi surfsister

The screens I mentioned are the displays on the front of the meter. You can flick through them by pressing the button on the front of the meter. Each display (screen) gives certain information.

You can see up to display number 24 without putting the gas card in. To see the displays after this, you’ll need to put the gas card into the meter.

Screen 27 shows any debt set on the meter.

Once the new credit meter is fitted, you can pay a lower daily standing charge if you set up a Monthly Direct Debit. Customers paying this way receive a payment adjustment of about £35 per fuel per year. The gas daily standing charge would go from 31.5p to 21.903p per day. This is on our standard tariff.

We’ve other tariffs available but, if you’re changing supplier, I’d stay on the standard one once the meter is changed. There’s no exit fees or tie-ins with this tariff leaving you free to change supplier without penalty.

I’d do as others have suggested and pop your details on to the independent comparison sites. This will list all the options open to you both with us and with the other suppliers.

Sorry if my earlier post wasn’t clear but hope this explains a bit better.
