when i go to device manager on my desktop there is a yellow exclamation mark on SM bus controller. The computer is new (had only for a week) and I am sure the mark was not there when i got it. When i right click it to update driver it says driver is missing and it cant find it. I know it is something to do with the mother board but how to sort it out?

when I go through (MY dell) app to check the system it comes up with the message that one device driver is missing (SM bus) and gives me the option to install it but when I click it I get nothing and when I check the device in device manager I get error code (28)0

Are you sure that you have the correct driver as that should install the drivers for the SM bus controller
Assuming 64 bit then you need the one here http://www.dell.com/support/home/uk/en/ukdhs1/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=21Y1M&fileId=3321807829&osCode=W764&productCode=xps-8700&languageCode=EN&categoryId=CS

thank you very much..your link sorted out the problem. I installed the file from the link and although I got the message that my computer has got a newer version of the software I decided to continue with the installation and now I cant see the yellow mark but strangely the the whole thing (SM bus controller has disappered from the device manager)0 -
Forget the "My dell" app.when I go through (MY dell) app to check the system
Go the the Dell website, click on Support, enter the Asset tag, and all drivers for your particular machine will be listed.Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -
Nothing strange. SM bus controller is a generic name for the device. Now the correct driver is installed it has been given its correct name and placed in the correct place in the device manager tree.strangely the the whole thing (SM bus controller has disappered from the device manager)This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
