Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me before I lose the will to live!:o
Basically I have an HP desktop with which i use a TP Link wireless USB adapter to connect (or not!) to the internet. The OS is Windows Vista. This was working fine but it appears to all of sudden be running VERY slowly or non existent. The usb has 5 bars in terms of connectivity as does the internet connection. And yet, it will not connect or does but literally takes an age. I have cleared all history/cookies etc as I thought this might slow it down but it hasnt made any difference. The computer otherwise works fine and is not slow at all. I use my kindle to play a radio app in the same room wirelessly and don't have any issues with this, so I really don't understand... I need to use this computer and the internet for Masters degree I am currently doing and this problem is driving me crazy... I phoned Sky who suggested changing the chanels on my wifi, but everything else works (although not as well as it should typically 10-12mbps) so I should be able to connect...
I would really appreciate any technical advice... TIA
Louise

I don't think changing the channels on your router will help...
I think it is the case you are trying to connect to newer wifi specturm (802.11 g/n) with old wifi card (a/b)
I am assuming your machine is a little bit old as got Vista and TP wireless card been around a while.- What is the model number of the TP Link card
 - What Router do you have (Model)

            Thanks for speedy reply. :-)
So the TP link is brand new.. I bought it today as I was using a net gear N600 dual band USB adapter and I wondered if that was the problem. So i swapped it and it to the TP model TL-WN823N just this morning - it hasn't helped though obviously
didnt see the point in going back to the net gear since that wasn't working either (although had been). I guess the computer is about 8 years old its an HP Pavillion. When I hover over the TP icon it says "wireless mode 802.11n" 0 -

So found out it's a SR101 - does that help?0 -
Well looking at the specs for the model
- Wi-Fi 802.11b,
 - Wi-Fi 802.11g,
 - Wi-Fi 802.11n

Your TP Link is in 802.11n mode so in the should be compatible.
Silly has it sounds I assume you have done the usual- Restart the Router
 - Try a different port for TP Wifi Card

Did you have to install drivers for the TP Wifi card?By day: IT GURU By Night: Depends if there beer involved

Yes re-started/re-booted the router. Haven't tried a different port so will try that.. yes installed driver for it, but it does have an option to check for updates so could try that??0

ok... so I've swapped a couple of the ports over and this seems to have done the trick! Now that i think about it, I moved the netgear dongle to a different port because i needed one for another usb and it wouldn't fit beside it so I moved it to another one, and then the problems started... so not sure I needed a new USB adapter after all but this one seems quicker now that it is actually working! Thanks for the help, I hope it is now problem solved! :-))0
