help please my pc is dead

turned off my pc as normal the other day without any problems.today when i went to start it , i turned the mains power on then hit the boot button and nothing started, tried repeating this a few times and still nothing.
I presume power is getting to the system as the small led on the start button is glowing green.
there is no noise, no beeps no fans.
any ideas as to what has happened?

It sounds like the computers power supply unit has failed. The supply will have several different feeds which will explain why your button is still illuminated but nothing else works.

I would suggest getting it replaced with a new unit. This is not a major job on most PCs.

That could be other things - like a dead motherboard/cpu/ram, that will keep a system off before it even posts (the beeps). Could be something simple, like a connector coming lose in the system.

Check the PSU with a voltmeter, if its not that then it will be another piece of hardware.

Could also be a faulty switch on the case. Open up the case and check if there are any LEDs lit on the motherboard etc.
