Sandals Nassau

Hi members,

Can anyone provide feedback on holiday in Nassau , Bahamas in a Sandals Resort?

Is it worth the extra cash?

Thinking of going there in mid January for 5 days.

Thank you.

  • Did Sandals in Jamaica. Yes, it's worth the extra money. Treated wonderfully the entire time.

No boozy bridal parties, no kids running free.

    It's a holiday for adults.

You'll probably spend most of your time in the resort because Nassau is pretty much a dump these days.

@Tom The Great Sebastian: If not Nassau , which other island would you recommend in that part of the world? I am planning to go there in Jan.

If by that part of the world you mean the Caribbean then everyone has their own favourites.
But the region has changed drastically in recent years - it is still struggling with after-effects of the economic slump, crime and poverty are up and the way people holiday there reflects this.
Almost everywhere has become AI with people preferring the security and predictability of staying on a resort rather than frequenting local bars and restaurants and as a result a lot of these have closed.
I also have found the level of service has fallen - young locals are much more sullen than they used to be and often appear to resent having to work for rich white folk in resorts.
But since you ask me I would recommend Cuba for a glimpse of the real Caribbean and Barbados because it's the least Americanised island.
However I'm sure plenty of other MSErs have differing views.

  • My favourite Caribbean island is Barbados. Why not do a cruise, get to see different islands?

I have got just 6 days so cruise would not be ideal.

Any particular resort in Barbados? Any recommendations?

I am looking for a quiet holiday , prefer a resort by the beach and some place where you do not get irritated by beach vendors.

It seems many people of trip advisor are saying Sandals is overpriced and service is not great. So i am just a bit confused as based on their advertising I had made up my mind to go to one of their resorts.
  • Wouldn't touch Cuba or the DR with a barge pole. If Tom the Great finds staff at resorts resentful, has he met the staff in AI in Cuba and the DR? Expect the shirt off your back in many cases and are not backwards in coming forwards telling you what they expect you to leave for them.

I have coworkers who go back to their favourite resorts year after year with suitcases of "gifts" for the staff.

I stayed in a Sandals coming up around two years ago (not the same one as Katie Price and her wedding but the same time). Had a wonderful experience and no problems with the staff. Took a taxi into the local town, went shopping in a supermarket for spices and a few other things. The locals were normal people, no hassle, nothing.
