This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Good morning all,Thank you RR for starting today's thread

A bit damp this morning it might clear later. Just finished one load of washing and have just hoovered downstairs. Did intend to do that yesterday, but didn't manage it.

Have to pop to the chemist for somethings for DD who has a shocking cold and I want to buy all the gift cards that we are giving at Christmas. I wrapped some more presents yesterday so it is only the gift cards now. I have a present to order next week for friends who don't live near us and then have it sent directly to them, thus saving on postage. I have learned a great deal since joining the threads.

BB, such good news, now you can look forward to Christmas.Camelot It does sound as though you are going to be busy changing your bedroom.

    Have a good weekend all

Morning RR & all who cross & follow

I had a lie in until 7 this morning, hubby is still in bed.

Hugs to Molly, hilly & anyone else in need.

    BB great news

Welcome to all the newbies, it's lovely to have new friends joining us.

    LW, has Jess arrived yet?

The fish have been fed, hubby & I have a cuppa, I'll make my porridge in a sec.

The WM & DW are both chugging away.

We have a busy day today, a friend is arriving at 9 to collect some books I have for her, I'm out for a couple of hours this afternoon saying goodbye to a friend who is leaving the area & tonight we are visiting one of hubby's friends as it's his birthday, phew.

Any housework that gets done will need to be fitted around all this.

My DGS Teddy has just cut his first tooth he is 6 months old, his twin sister is snuffly at the moment so she may follow soon.

I better dig a hole on the sofa so my friend can sit down when she arrives.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Morning All

Good news re your Mum Redruby, hope she recovers quickly.
Mrs LW - How's Docky today?
LW - hope you're ok and enjoying Jessie's company.
Love and hugs to all, especially if you're not feeling too good.

Feeling a little rough myself this morning, I have a sore throat and I blame someone at work, it's all very well struggling on and being a martyr but she has passed her germs to me. Wish she would realise that the school will function without her.

Cleared loads of stuff out of my bedroom last night and I am now sleeping in DS2s room, he doesn't really live here anyway so more of a spare room. I will dismantle the bed today and lift the carpet. I was really good yesterday and took things I didn't want to the charity shop, the longer it hangs about here the more I change my mind and keep it!

Washing on airers at the moment but I think it is to be dry today so may risk hanging some out, it will smell fresh anyway.

Hope you all have a good weekend, take care. XX
  • Morning all,

On here early today :). Sitting drinking coffee and trying to wake up.

Off to take DS2 to work and do the Aldi shop. Need to go up the high street to get a few bits and pay in a cheque. Don't think I have much else planned other than that.

Might see if I can get DH to come for a walk later but his back is playing him up and he does work physically hard all week and deserves a rest.

Hester - Your day sounds hectic, but fun :)

    Happy Saturday :)

    Morning everyone.

    No rain! :)

Woke earlier and fully intended to get up and out then but my will failed me. As I hardly even have a lie in I'm not too guilty.

Want to get up go Oban for a few bits and pieces though I may put that off until tomorrow.

Camelot - hope you have some help to move all that furniture around.

RR - glad your mum is home OK. A friend of mine had a new knee recently but the surgeon managed to break her fibula at the same time so she's feeling wretched.

Need to fill the bird feeders. OH set up a 'bird cam' so we can watch the feeders from anywhere over the Internet. My mother keeps sending me emails telling me how the the birds must be starving. I could fill all three of the feeders every day and they'd still be empty at night.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

    Happy Sarurday.
  • Good Morning All :hello:

Thank you all for the welcome backs :D

Nice cold but dry start here, had a little lie in as had friends over last night and a bit of a late one.

Today am off to Morrisons in a little bit - want to get a joint and some veg for tomorrow, no cooking for me tonight as off out with some good friends I haven't see for a while.

Am taxing for DS later as he is off to watch Southend play football.

OH will probably do some housework and I will clear the ironing pile - our little dog is showing no signs of giving birth but we are also looking after a friends dog so the house is a little mad at the moment.

    Have a great day all.x

    Hi everyone,

I'm back from a manic couple of days. I took DS to hospital to have his wisdom tooth out under sedation. After an hour a nurse came out to tell me they were having difficulty numbing his mouth enough and sedating him. I said, it's a family thing (me and dd also have problems with this at the dentist and we metabolise sedation oddly) which is why he wanted a GA. Another hour later the consultant came down, decided they couldn't give him any more drugs and because they'd already cut into it they couldn't leave it he yanked it out, causing a lot of pain. He's still very sore and bruised and I feel very cross because it could have all been avoided if the original doctor had believed him - I made them write in his notes that he needs GA if they ever do another.

Then we went to Gatwick to pick up DD and BF and see her ring. It's a gorgeous light blue round sapphire, it matches her eyes. Now the preparations begin because they don't want to hang about, she's hearing her clock ticking.

I need to blitz the house today but I want DH to help, I generally do all the HW because I'm at home all day but now I'm working I need him to help.

MRSLW I'm glad Docky's getting some help. BB, good news, it must be such a relief. Hilly, I'm glad your bathroom's sorted, these things take so long.

    Have a good day.
  • Good Morning everyone, dry but very wet underfoot here and feels damp in the air. Had a fairly successful shop in the city yesterday and the Lurcha slept right through again last night which is lovely. He also stayed in the lounge and in his chair asleep last evening, something he hasn't done for months. I think the medication for doggy dementia is having an effect. I didn't want to have false hope as it seemed to make an instant improvement in his mood but the vet yesterday said that 'yes' it did make a difference from just one dose so hopefully he's not so scared and upset as he was. He certainly is coming to both of us for cuddles now and playing properly not just bringing multiple toys and dropping them and wandering off again. The jury's out but I'm hopeful.

I'm off to an NCT nearly new sale in the village hall this morning to see what's there for the Zebra child. Now he's crawling I'm hoping to get a stair gate for when he visits, I'll feel much happier if I know he can't climb. The last one was impressive as the goods were of excellent quality and the prices very reasonable too.

Have yourselves a good day everyone, Lyn xxx.

    Good morning everyone

I had a lie in till 8am this morning so I feel rested but the black dog is growling away at me so I am struggling to find anything positive to say.
Eldest DD is coming round in a little while with the grand kids so that will be nice and distracting.
Hubby and the girls are still in their respective beds but the girls want to go shopping this morning so I will have to go and get them up in a mo.

Hope everyone is having a great day whatever they are up to. Take care xx

Good Morning everyone ,very misty and damp here but at the moment dry,but not for long I fear. NSD today as my purse is firmly closed this month as much as possible :) but I do have to pop to the library to pick up my book club book. Halfway through the month already !!!.

I send my reading for gas and electricity yesterday online and when I looked and my emails I was pleased to find my D/Debits will go down next month by £5.00 :):):)thanks to the warmer weather we have been having I think, plus I only use the CH as and when required and make great use of my knitted blanket over my knees in the evening instead of switching the heating on. I have insulated walls and triple thickness in the roof, and I am very particular about saving energy. My D/Debits for both Gas and Electric are now down to £44.00 per month which I am really pleased about.even the smallest thing can be money saving, remains of a kettle boiled goes into a flask for use later or even for washing up a few things in the evening, and a good hot water bottle on your lap with a warm knitted blanket is more than enough if I am watching t.v.Every little helps and what I manage to save in the warmer months help pay for when it gets colder in January and Febuary.
Today I am going to make a big vat of soup for next weeks lunches and probably some pasties to go into the freezer.B/Brains ones look really good and I thought I would add some diced up crispy bacon to the mushrooms as I have some flat mushrooms in the fridge.
I think I will also make a 2 pint rice pudding in the slow cooker overnight as I have a large tin of evaporated milk that I can add a bit of fresh milk to.With some nutmeg and cinnamon added it will make a good pud for several days next week,a good filler upper :):)
Have a good day everyone what ever you are doing
    Cheers JackieO
P.S. Glad you got the all clear B/Brain xx
