Gold Refiners

I need some urgent advice please. Last week I sent some jewellery to this company in a special delivery envelope they sent to me. However I got a call from them next day to be told the items I noted on the pack form were missing from the package and the only thing they found inside was a empty watch box and a single earring. The earring they mention is not mine I don't know how they found it although the box is mine. They tell me it was signed for by one of their staff who only gave a first name on the signature and its a very illegible one. I have signed for parcels myself and im always told to add my surname as well as first name or initial by the postie so this all sounds suspicious ( to me anyway). I have contacted royal mail and they said as im the sender I need to request the packaging to be sent back to me along with the proof of posting and original receipts for the items. Gold refiners are demanding these documents be sent to them and not RM? They say because they paid for the envelope (£7.10) its their right to do so. RM told me not to send gold refiners anything and only to them. Now gold refiners are saying It sounds as though im trying it on for the sum of £360 pounds I don't think so and im aware of the implications of false claims. Royal mail tell me gold refiner have now contacted them saying the envelope was signed for but the envelope looked bunched around the seal and sellotape was around it. I made sure it was securely and neatly sealed and didn't have to use tape before I posted it. I don't know what to do here I don't think I would have a valid claim with royal mail as the package was signed for and it sounds like there was no evidence of tampering on being signed for. so it sounds like its a issue with this company instead. The person who signed is one of their reception staff (so they say) and when the valuation team opened the envelope they were missing apart from a single earring which I certainly didn't put in. I have been advised to contact trading standards as they are now refusing to send my box back to me which makes me more suspicious. I haven't accused them or the mail of theft but this sounds very dodgy on gold refiners half I think.
Britain is great but Manchester is greater

What does you proof of postage say the weight of the parcel was? That will be enough to prove that what they received isn't what was sent.

How many items exactly did you send? if they say they only found a watch box and a single earring I highly doubt that would weigh the same as the same box with several other items. It is a very serious claim to make that you think they have switched items and nobody in trading standards should be making such a statement.

Have they told you what the total weight of the packaging, watch box and single earring come to? Just show them a copy of your receipt showing that you sent a heavier package and that should be all the proof they need.

That could be the result of tampering in transit if it was delivered in that state.
