unadopted council road?

We are ftb and have just seen a house we are interested in but have been told the road is unadopted by the local council.
The house has been on the market for 10 months and the estate agent has informed us there have been 3 offers on the house, but all fell through due to the solicitor warning them off due to the roads. The last offer was far into the sale and an exchange date for contracts had been set.
Has anyone got advice about the potential problems and issues surrounding private roads?

Its up to the households to maintain the road.This is rarely done so the road ends up looking like the moon. If you can live with that, fine, you get a cheap house.0

#1. The people that run these "sell your house and rent back" companies are generally lying thieves and are best avoided

would you get refuse collections? Sorry I don't know anything about unadopted roads but if you don't get services that would be a problem.£4000 challenge

depends what the road is like.
I live in such a place, the road services 4 houses and has not needed work since they were built 25 years ago. The road is fine as it has only very light traffic. All services are supplied.
It didn't put us or the new neighbours off. If you like the house don't let it put you off.0 -

its a new build (within the last 7-8 years) they are still building in that area.
The property is £129,999 for a small 3 bed detatched. Im just a bit concerned as 3 people have pulled out already due to the road.0 -
If its a new build with an unadopted road, its likely to have a maintenance change for its upkeep. This could be putting folk off.0

My parents live on an un-adopted road, and the 4 houses that the road services, each pay a set amount each year to keep it maintained. My parents currently hold the ‘title’ I suppose of collecting the funds and ensuring the road is maintained, and any legal bits and bobs that need sorting are done through a solicitor. Luckily all the neighbours are amenable and the situation works well.
The council collects their rubbish from the wheelie bins from a designated spot which was agreed with the council and the residents.
They have had no problems living on an un-adopted road, but I am quite sure there are many different situations out there that don’t work so well!
If all the neighbours work together to keep the road maintained etc, then I cannot see it being a problem!0 -

no problems what so ever, infact it is a very sought out road to live in for price bracket it is in.
we get rubbish and recycling collections, no street lights though..
i like the road being left 'unmade' we all drive slowly down the road, which i think is a good thing.
if we choose to have repairs we all chip in.
the only complaint i have ever had is it makes my car and windows dusty and i hate cleaning windows and the car

its an unadopted road
therefore nothing to do with the council0 -
If someone trips on the road and then goes and sues, wont the residents be liable since it's not council owned?0
