PCP and car insurance

I took out car insurance from Tesco via compare the market. I was looking through my paperwork today and noticed it had asked was I the owner of the car and am I the registered keeper .

I answered yes to both. Now the V5 shows me to be the registered keeper.

So do I have to phone Tesco and change the owner to the finance company? I have read other threads and it seems to be 50/50 yes/no.

It will depend on you contract - some will keep the finance company as the registered keep whereas others - Mercedes from personal experience, for example, will make it the purchaser. If this is the case, then as long as you have answered the questions that are asked you shouldnt have to inform the insurers of anything.

My pcp is with VW finance the paperwork I have doesn't mention who is the legal owner.

Edit: found original agreement, vw finance own the car until I make the last payment. Need to update Tesco and hope they don't charge me for the admin costs
