I'm a little confused so hopefully someone here can help. I've had Solar Panels installed on my house and had a Solic 200 installed as well. This is supposed to use excess energy generated by the Solar Panels to heat the water in the hot water tank. Previously, we always used the boiler to hear water so our immersion switch was always switched off.

I've noticed now that the immersion switch is always on now. Does that mean if we use the hot water in the tank in the evening then the tank will use expensive mains electricity to heat the water late in the evening (because no energy is being generated by the panels) If that's the case, I'm not sure it's been the best investment! Surely I don't need to switch the immersion switch on and off. I thought this was the whole point of one of these systems.

The whole point of the solic, is that your immersion wiring will only get power when you have excess solar energy. Usually the solic is wired into the fuse box, before the wires go to the immersion switch.

In the evening, the solic should mean that the immersion is shut off, even if the switch is on.

The solic does have an "override" function, which will turn the immersion heater on, even if the solar panels are inactive.
