oh dear ... any ideas?

i went to the optician today.
i need new tinted glasses as my old ones are too small( lens wise) and are letting in light that prevents me from using the sight i have ( medical tinit)
i am small and so i need small frames.
the adult ones will be covered by the price of the voucher ... but they dont fit!
so i will need kids ones that i have to pay for!
i know you cant discriminate on the grounds of disability but obviously you can when it comes to size!

Go to another optician, there are plenty of petite or teen options available at low/ no cost.

I used to have to get glasses from the kid's range but now Specsavers do a good range of petite size frames. I have a narrow head apparently!

ot was specsavers that i went to
  • I thought vouchers covered cost of lenses & not actual frames. A kids frame isn't very expensive is it?
Query this with manager & query with Specsavers head office. Make a hullabaloo on social media too. You can take your prescription voucher elsewhere you know.

last time i had glasses, i didnt have to pay anything at all.
they said it is purely because i am having childrens frames
  • Specsavers have a petite range. If that particular store dont stock them then ask for details of one that does.

these are cool, and surprisingly cheap! http://www.specsavers.co.uk/glasses/lyra?sku=25239768

i used to have to buy kids glasses too! there was never much choice and they were still expensive
  • I have found you have to specifically ask for the free frames.

My face is rather small - apparently the bridge of my nose is 'surprisingly small' (according to my Optician!).

In the past I have made it clear to the optician that I could not afford any of their frames - and they then fetched a small box containing maybe a dozen frames at most. These are there 'free' frames...they don't put them on display as they like to 'encourage' you to buy frames.

The frames were not the most stylish - but they were included in the NHS voucher.

This was at Dolland and Aitchinson (now part of Boots I believe)

(If it helps anyone...I also get a tint on my glasses for free as there is an accepted medical reason for needing a tint....I hadn't realised this was covered until the optician told me!)

Vision Express allowed me to have Young person frames free of charge using my voucher, but I do not have tinted lens
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)

i get the tint free because it is a medical tint ( deemed nexessary and not by choice)
they said i can have adult frames free, complete with lenses and tint, but it wouldnt cover me for childrens frames.

they must have tried every frame in the place on me and was met with 'tutting' and shaking heads as the frames were just too large.

ogg yjr subject... i once had a hairdresser say to me .... i dont want to cut your hair around your ears because you will look like a jug!.... its not that you have big ears, but a really little head! ;)

I have the same problem, all adult frames are too big for me. The problem with children/teenager ones is that they are all with design which are frankly not appropriate for a professional adult in their 40s!

I have been to so many opticians, I could have cried. In the end, the last two frames that have suited me the best have been from....Asda! The added bonus for me has been that they were anything from 1/2 to 2/3 cheaper than over high street opticians, let alone the private ones!

You need to look for the length diameters. For me, it's got to be 48. It limits the choice grately, but at least I now know not to bother trying anything else!
