in Credit cards
Hi all
In August I opened a joint account with my gf with HSBC, who at the same time gave me a credit card with £1k limit. I currently have a Barclaycard with £250 limit but this is over the limit now due to charges and a CPA I have only just found out about (I've always been paying the monthly minimum but charges still rack up).
Today I rang HSBC to get the balance transferred to the new card. Apparently the HSBC card had a 0% balance transfer offer which has run out - I'm not bothered about the 0%, I just don't want to give Barclaycard any more money - but apparently I can't now make a balance transfer *at all*, regardless of the interest rate...is that correct? Can't I just use the HSBC card to pay off the Barclaycard amount?

I would not advise you to follow this advice but if you're really determined not to pay Barclaycard any more you could use your HSBC card to withdraw cash and use that to pay Barclaycard. This is likely to cost you more in the long run (depending on your interest rates) but it would get around the no-balance-transfer problem.
To repeat, it's NOT a money-saving solution. Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

Credit cards don't always offer balance transfers at all, so it is possible they have withdrawn that option from your account yes.
What you could consider is using the HSBC card for normal purchases you would make on your debit card this month, and then using the money left in your bank account to repay the BCard balance.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
