DNS Server??

i have just got BT Broadband. i tried internet and i keep getting the following message below? any ideas please?? thanks

The server at https://www.moneysavingexpert.com can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network.
Check your DNS settings
Contact your network administrator if you're not sure what this means.
Try disabling network prediction
Go to the Chrome menu > Settings > Show advanced settings... and deselect "Predict network actions to improve page load performance." If this does not resolve the issue, we recommend selecting this option again for improved performance.
Allow Chrome to access the network in your firewall or antivirus settings.
If it is already listed as a program allowed to access the network, try removing it from the list and adding it again.
Error code: DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_BAD_CONFIG

DNS = Domain Name Service; the thing that changes the readable web address to the IP address of the computer hosting the website. (https://www.moneysavingexpert.com resolves to 162.13.48.82)

Sounds like your Homehub needs reset. Either that or BT's DNS servers are throwing a wobbly.

Or is it just https://www.moneysavingexpert.com you're having a problem with?
  • hi bod.

Yeah i have done all that and used BT technical help desk. they are calling back tommorrow. it does it with all websites i try to visit. i end up searching ncpa.cpl and then re-ticking the DNS server manually as its set to a DNS that the computer obviously wont recognise.

What version of windows are you running? (Assuming Windows). Google for set dns manually windows Number and you'll find advice on how to manually configure your computer with a DNS server address (or addresses). This will bypass however the Homehub and BT's network is set and send the request direct to a DNS server.

    Windows 7 example

You could use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 which are Google's DNS servers
  • OpenDNS Maybe the solution?

Have a look at DNS Jumper, it's a free download...Easy to reset back to original DNS settings.
