Hi, I bought my Qashqai from dealer who registered it from new 24/12 2013.....I registered it 13 Feb 2014...2 questions...1. to maintain warranty....do I need to get service 1 yr from 1st reg. date...or when I bought it?

2. Do I have to take it to the original dealer....or can I use my usual local mechanic? Thanks.

Surely the answers will be in the service/warranty book supplied with the car?

But I would of thought that the first service (assuming it has to be done after the first 12 months) will be due on or around the 24th December. But didn't the dealer service it before you took delivery?

In answer to the second part of the question, as long as any servicing is done using approved or genuine parts, then afaik it can be done at a reputable garage that can provide proper documentation. And it dosn't have to be done at the "original dealer", any main dealer can carry out a service (or any other warranty work for that matter).

  • To add to what Tilt has said. I think the garage needs to be VAT registered. Enjoy your new car, the first keeper didn't have it long.

    Might be an ex-demo?

Yes...dealer had used it as demo....sold it to me...20 odd miles only!
  • True, not sure on the rules to avoid tax. I did think it may have been a little longer the garage had to keep them.

No mention of VAT in block exemption regs.

OP, if you have a new car get a dealer service whilst under warranty. Far easier than understanding, gathering and keeping all the evidence required to show that a none main dealer did the work to specification.

I second this, also it helps with goodwill further down the line if anything major goes wrong.

When people suggest using a service garage outside of the dealer network they usually forget to mention the rust and paint warranty. To keep these valid it normally involves a yearly trip to the main dealers and some charge for this.

Go main dealer for couple of years and haggle. Also helps come resale.
