hi all
I recently switched or in the process of switching, just got this email off npower this morning (below) I thought I didn't have to contact them? as the other provider SP takes care of everything? SP haven't asked for final meter reading yet, but now that npower have been told I,m leaving it wont be long I imagine,
do I need to contact npower? or just leave it up to SP to take care of the switch

Sorry you’re leaving us
We’ve just heard that you’d like to leave us and we’re very sorry we’re going to lose you.
Please call us on 0800 197 3937 (if you haven’t spoken to us already), to talk about finalising your electricity account so we can make sure the transfer goes smoothly. We’re here 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 2pm on Saturdays.
Please don't cancel your Direct Debit at your bank just yet. We'll collect your final payment (or refund any credit due to you) on the date shown on your final bill or statement."

I have always given both parties meter readings to avoid any confusion later and suggest you do the same.0 -
do you give the meter readings when (in my case SP ask me to provide them) and then give the same to npower? as I don't think giving npower my readings now as they will be different when SP ask for them0

Whilst you are correct in thinking that SP takes care of everything, it would be wise to Email n'power the dates, (Maybe different for Gas & Elec.), on which the change over takes place and the meter readings you gave to SP
Though n'powers Final Bill should be based on those readings, their systems are in a shambles and it's not unknown for them to bill on 'Estimated' readings.
Unfortunately 'Shambled Systems' seems to be contageous and SP appears to have caught it - Hope it all goes smoothly, but be prepared for hic cups0 -
The outgoing supplier takes the reading from the gaining supplier. You can give them to npower if you like, however it's about as useful as bottling fresh air. All this contact is really about is to give you the hard sell and persuade you to stay.0

Agree with the above; however, the meter readings that you see on your new account may well differ from those you have provided. You may see the words 'industry estimate'. The reason for this is that the switch may not go through on the promised day or the Metering Authority thinks that the meter readings are out-of-kilter with past usage. (There is evidence that some people moving to a more costly tariff overstate the meter readings in their favour).
Provided the opening readings with SP and the closing readings with NPower are the same then they difference in cost to you is likely to be in pence. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
