I'm on 3 at the moment and the contract will end in a month. I've been thinking about keeping my number -don't want to lose my contacts and change numbers etc. and transfer to giffgaff.
Does anyone know how it works? Thanks!

You ask 3 for your PAC code.
Whilst waiting for it, you order a sim card from Giffgaff (I'm with them so can vouch for how easy it is).
You put the new sim card into your phone, you activate it online via giffgaff's web page, and you can schedule a date for when your number will be transferred. For a short period of time on that date you will have no mobile while the transfer takes place but when I did it last month it was only for about 20/30 mins max.
Will your current phone work with a giffgaff sim card. If you order the sim card now you can put it in your phone to see if it will. It will come up with a signal so you can see if it works even if you haven't activated it. If it doesn't work, you will have to get your current phone unlocked, I'm not nor never have been with 3 so unsure how that process works, someone will be along shortly who will be able to explain.
If i've missed anything important give me a shout.
It's so very easy (but a daunting prospect at first).Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

What sort of phone do you have?
Giffgaff uses the O2 network, if you pop into your O2 shop and see if they can give you a free sim card (i'm not sure this is possible) then you will see if your phone works with an O2 sim card so you will know then whether your phone needs unlocking.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

It's an iPhone 4 with contract but also think about getting a new iPhone. can't wait to transfer my number once the contract ends..0 -
In that case everything you have on the phone is stored on the phone and not on the sim card. So, you won't lose anything when you transfer to Giffgaff.
If you want to get a new iphone the process of transferring from one phone to the other is simple too.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
