Personally OP I would nt risk calling UWs bluff, at £150 a locksmith and similar for a warrant to enter the property. The prepay meter which have those costs added to the meter as debt repayable every time you credit the meter. The £100 deposit is similar to what a lot of suppliers ask for now with direct debits payable in advance0

I thought Utility Warehouse was N-power in disguise
UW bought themselves out from npower around a year ago and are their own supplier again.

The issues with changing suppliers is not just a case of an account number on a computer to say please bill via X instead of Y. Your supplier has contracts with various different companies - e.g. those who own the meter and those who read the meter.
To backdate the billing is easy, but what if you have a problem with your meter? You phone npower as you believe they are your supplier, but legally they have no right to the meter until their meter operator picks up. You would need to phone UW despite then not being your supplier.
The system is speeding up, with some suppliers changing the switchover to 16 days, and the others following in the new year. It is possible to start the ball rolling before you move in - but I wouldn't recommend any earlier than the cool off - so if the move falls through you can cancel it - and the existing tenant won't get any communication that their supplier is changing. You will still have a period with the old supplier but it will be minimised.0 -
Over estimating to get a large bill which you dont pay is their excuse for refusing to allow you to change.
NOT only Npower - sold their customers to utility warehouse, but southern electricity do the same.
OFGEM - able to regulate - NOT a chance#
possibly a load of chancers and jobs' worth's talking a good story to keep their excessive pay and pensions whist doing NOTHING of any use.
GO PUBLIC - much quicker0 -
