DVSA are, "reminding" NTs on refreshers that the point of advisories is to draw attention to things outwith the MOT that the presenter may benefit from. Non-techs who took the courses to become NTs are the main culprits who cover themselves with screeds of ill-informed rubbish. Pop your head under most three year old cars and tell me the ones that don't have signs of corrosion on every single mild steel component, apart from the brake discs. In the case of engine covers and belly plates, only when an issue is suspected should they draw the way the car came from the factory, be related to the presenter, and put in context at that; otherwise with most cars built in the past twenty years, that, "advisory" should be pre-printed on the form.0

Not buyer beware...
But, doesn't mean he has any rights.
Would also depend on in what capacity it was bought in? If he's using it as a works van, he's deemed a business customer, in the same way this was your business asset you sold, thus no consumer rights.
If he bought it to take his mum shopping, thus a consumer, age description mileague and price are also a factor, since SOGA doesn't allow for wear and tear anyway.
If he had the opportunity to inspect the MOT before buying, this could also be a factor.
Overall I agree he's a bit of a muppet and you should ignore it.0
