Hi,
I am in a bit of a sticky situation. My teenage younger sister has promised my parents that she can "easily" sort out my parents' very basic website for their tiny company, except surprise surprise she's now cut and run. So it's fallen on me to sort this out or incur the wrath of the parents.
My question is, what is the easiest (cheapest) way to do this? I have been sent the following files:
script - javascript file
packed - javascript file
DD_belatedPNG - javascript file
I have had the sense to unzip them using mZip, but that's about as far as my technological savvy extends.
I was going to buy the Economy Linux Hosting with cPanel and a domain registration from GoDaddy, but thought I'd best check first as I honestly haven't a clue what I'm doing
I'd appreciate any help, thanks in advance!

If all you have is 3 Javascript files then you dont have a website so dont waste your money on hosting. Javascript is client side programming that creates control/ interactivity for the webpages they are called from but you need actual webpages to call them.
Did your parents ever see a working version of their site? Did they just see pictures of what it'd look like?0 -

They did previously have a working website, but it needed updating as it had old information on it.
It was so ridiculously simple, literally just one image and nothing else!
However when it came to updating/renewing (I think something also expired), the guy who was doing it wanted £400 to do it :eek:Undergrad law student. Take my advice with a pinch of salt! :rotfl:0 -
If their requirements are that simple you could start again from scratch with blogger. It's free.

Do they own the original site? Unfortunately under UK law your dont automatically own copyright to commissioned work, their contract would have to explicitly transfer the rights to them otherwise the person that create it owns it still.
Web designers can use a number of different models to their business and revenue generation. Assuming its not a subscription based model then many will charge a moderately high minimum fee for ad hoc changes as (a) they have you over a barrel and (b) really minor work does actually take a fair amount of time if done correctly as the time to create new backups, raise invoices etc are the same if you are change 1 word or creating a couple of new pages.
Ideally they need to get a copy of their original site, assuming they own it, and get someone to convert it into Wordpress or another Content Management System based site so that in the future minor changes can be done by them. This will come with a cost but it creates a long term saving.0 -
a really cheap (free) option is Google Pages.
Then either buy a domain name and point it at the Google site or simply use the Google address (free)
Purists will look down their noses at the above - but it works and can be free.0
