Experian Credit Reference Agency - Why multiple searches by some companies?

I have checked my Experian credit score and it is pretty healthy which I'm pleased about.
But in the report, where it shows previous credit searches that have been carried out, there are some things I don't understand.
For example, I applied to Screwfix Ltd for a credit account. They checked my credit score at Experian (as one would expect), but I have FOUR separate searches listed, instead of one.
They are all from Screwfix on 15th February 2014. So why are there seemingly four searches instead of one? Surely this will impact my credit score?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Mcdonella
A company may sometimes conduct a "soft" search, also known as an "unrecorded" search before a full search and offer of credit. This could be to give a quote before and actual offer or to confirm your ID.
The soft search cannot be seen by lenders and would not have an impact on your credit worthiness.
However 4 searches does sound excessive, unless they were considering you for different products.
I would be happy to take a look at these searches for you, email your details to me and I can get them checked.
